Sung-yuan (Shogen Sogaku) 1139-1209
Last Zen Master in the Mumon kan.
The priest Sung-yuan asked, "Why can't the person of greatest strength lift up a leg?"
Again he said, "It is not with the tongue that you speak."
Student of Mi-an and teacher of Yun-an P'u-yen and Wu-ming Hui-shing. Sung yuan put away the robe given to him by Mi-an when nobody could answer these questions. After his death Yun-an was declared his successor.
